Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extended contest where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and the network’s strongest playoff performance since 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
